The criteria for fire resistance classification of construction materials are outlined in BS EN 13501w + A1:2018. This standard presents a catalog of products (European Commission 96/603/EC) that can, under certain conditions, be deemed as class A1 without the need for testing. Galvanized steel attains a fire class A1 classification without requiring any tests.

Ducting classified as A1 Rated Non-Combustible is produced using 0.9mm hot-dipped galvanized mild steel, which is adequate to achieve A1 classification for ductwork that extends through the building's facade.
